Shuttle service available to our two kennel locations.
York County is a big stretch of land. From the city of York in the north to the small communities hugging the Pennsylvania-Maryland border — Shrewsbury, Stewartstown, New Freedom, Glen Rock — the county covers a wide range of communities and landscapes. Country Comfort Kennels has operated in Shrewsbury at 23 Kratz Rd since 1983, which makes us one of the most established boarding kennels in southern York County and the broader I-83 corridor.
If you’re in Shrewsbury, Stewartstown, Red Lion, or anywhere in southern York County, we’re close. If you’re in York proper, Hanover, or further north, the drive is 30-45 minutes depending on where you’re starting — and a lot of York County dog owners make that drive specifically because they want a facility with real outdoor space, not a building with a small fenced patch called a “yard.”
Our Shrewsbury location sits on a property with genuine outdoor space and trails, which matters for dogs who are used to having room to run. York County has a climate that swings hard — humid summers that rival anything you’ll find in Maryland, cold winters with real snowfall, and shoulder seasons that can go either way. All of our accommodations are climate-controlled year-round, so your dog isn’t contending with a 95-degree July afternoon or a January wind chill.
The Weiskopf family has owned and operated CCK since 1983. A lot of our York County clients have been boarding with us for years — some for over a decade. That kind of loyalty doesn’t come from being average.
Our standard option: spacious, heated and air-conditioned runs with daily room service, fresh bedding, fresh water, treats, and toys. Dogs in indoor runs are taken out to personal outside exercise yards regularly throughout the day. They’re not sitting in a run all afternoon while the sun’s out.
A connected indoor-outdoor space with a door your dog can move through freely during daylight hours. If your dog is used to yard access at home, a standard enclosed indoor run can feel confining. The patio terrace gives them the ability to self-regulate — inside when they want shade or rest, outside when they want fresh air.
A private, quiet, indoor room designed to replicate the feel of home as closely as a kennel environment can. Best suited for senior dogs, dogs with separation anxiety, or dogs who become overwhelmed by the ambient noise of a busy facility. Premium amenities included. This is the right choice for dogs where “just boarding” isn’t going to cut it.
CCK’s doggy daycare is available Monday through Friday, 7am to 6pm. If you’re a York County professional who commutes south on I-83 toward the Maryland suburbs or Baltimore, CCK is on your route. Drop your dog off on the way in. Pick them up on the way back. They’ll have had a full day of socialization and exercise while you were at the office.
Dogs in daycare are in supervised play with compatible dogs. This isn’t group daycare where every dog is thrown in together and chaos ensues. We pay attention to temperament and energy level when grouping dogs, and we adjust if something isn’t working.
Standard boarding at CCK includes access to our Camp Activities program — outdoor play, supervised group activities, and time on our nature trails. Not every boarding kennel in York County has the physical space to offer real outdoor enrichment. We do. If your dog has been playing hard all week and needs a bath before coming home, we offer bathing services as an add-on.
Our Shrewsbury location at 23 Kratz Rd is a short drive from I-83 Exit 4, making CCK one of the most accessible boarding kennels in southern York County. Whether you’re heading to the airport, taking a family trip, or have a long work week and need a reliable place for your dog, the location makes the logistics straightforward.
For York County pet owners who are traveling through or connecting in the Baltimore area, we also offer a pet shuttle service with pickups in Timonium and White Marsh. If you’re flying out of BWI or connecting through Baltimore transit, you can hand your dog off at the shuttle stop and not have to backtrack to the kennel. Contact us to coordinate.
We board cats too, and we take it seriously. Our cat area is kept entirely separate from the dog sections — quiet, climate-controlled, and designed around the fact that cats handle boarding very differently than dogs do. If you have both a dog and a cat who need care during the same trip, we can handle both.
A 25% deposit confirms your reservation. If you pick your dog up before noon on the departure day, no boarding charge is incurred for that final day.
Our Shrewsbury location is in southern York County, approximately 20-30 minutes south of York city via I-83. Communities like New Freedom, Glen Rock, and Shrewsbury Borough are all within 10 minutes of our facility.
CCK in Shrewsbury is the closest full-service boarding kennel to both Stewartstown and New Freedom. We're a short drive from either community.

Yes. Unlike some facilities with fixed check-in windows, we allow drop-off and pickup any time during our regular boarding hours: Monday-Saturday 9am-12pm and 3pm-6pm; Sundays 10:30am-12pm and 3pm-5pm.
We have years of experience with anxious dogs. Depending on your dog's specific needs, we'll recommend the right accommodation and handling approach. The luxury suite and reduced group interaction are often the right call for dogs that get easily overwhelmed. Call us and talk it through before you book.

I cannot say enough good things about this kennel and it's staff. They are all so friendly and our 3 Olde English Bulldogges love to go there each and every time. During our last boarding, one of our dogs injured her dew claw and it required additional medical attention. The staff informed us of the injury right away and a plan was made to get her in with one of the kennel's local vets. She was seen the very next morning and taken care of. I was so happy with the communication from the staff to us while we were away. I was even more happy with the care they provided to our girl. <3Posted on Google![]()
